This book has 27 chapters covering a wide range of topics. This book, as a result provides a very comprehensive report of Hong Kong in 1958. Apart from these chapters there are also 21 appendices, 16 photographs and 10 maps and diagrams. The dust cover is reproduced from a coloured lithograph forming part of the ‘Sketches of China and the Chinese’ by Auguste Borget, a French artist who visited Hong Kong in August 1838, some three years before the Colony’s foundation. The view is of Kowloon Bay, probably near Kowloon City, with the Kowloon Hills in the background.
