Description
The children of King Charles 1 and Queen Henrietta Maria grew up in a court of exceptional grace and culture. Their parents were imbued with a deep love for each other and affection for their sons and daughters. The young Stewarts later lived chequered lives, but in spite of occasional squabbles they retained a life-long mutual affection. Apart from one boy and two girls who died either in infancy or early childhood the children were Charles [later Charles ll], Mary [later Princess of Orange], James [later James ll], Princess Elizabeth, and Henrietta [later Duchess of Orleans].
